National Council of Nonprofits

Cathy Taylor

Executive Director,

ONN

We’re thrilled to host Tim Delaney, President and CEO of the National Council of Nonprofits in conversation with Cathy Taylor, ONN Executive Director to start the day. Since the 2016 elections, the U.S. has been going through remarkable shifts in the policymaking space. With more than 1.8 million nonprofits spread over 50 states, what effect have these changes had on the nonprofit sector? How is the sector responding? With the advent of so many proposed policy shifts, how is the U.S. sector prioritizing what is most important and what advocacy strategies are working- or not? Tim Delaney joins us from the National Council of Nonprofits – the largest network of charitable nonprofits in the U.S. with more than 30,000 organizational members – to share its experiences and reflect on what the Ontario sector can learn and ways we can support our neighbours to the south.

We are honoured to host a special presentation at Nonprofit Driven 2017 to talk about the role of nonprofits and charities in Truth and Reconciliation. Moderated by broadcaster and advocate Jesse Wente and featuring panelists Kris Archie and Max FineDay, this will be an important conversation to challenge and inspire the sector to take action. Learning from these Indigenous leaders who work in the sector, we will explore what role can- and should- nonprofits play in the process of reconciliation. What are the opportunities to work authentically together to address the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action? And where do we begin?

In an upcoming double year of elections, we are thrilled to host a special presentation at Nonprofit Driven 2017 to showcase inspiring stories of how nonprofit champions sparked connections to candidates and parties and helped their communities and issues be heard. Moderated by Nam Kiwanuka, host/producer of TVO’s The Agenda with Steve Paikin, and featuring panelists Debbie Douglas, Tim Gray and Susan Pigott, this will be a strategic conversation on influencing public policy during election periods. With both a provincial election and municipal elections next year, it’s time for the Ontario nonprofit sector to leverage the opportunities election fever brings!
